Chapter 7

“Soon you’ll be able to take us all at once,” Derrick said, stroking my hair. My skin was sweaty, which made it skin to my skin, but he didn’t seem to care that it was disgusting.

“I could never,” I murmured to him. I was too loose and relaxed to feel shock at his words. I just felt slightly puzzled.

All of them at once? No, that was impossible, my brain told me simply. It couldn’t be done.

“You’ll surprise yourself,” he said, chuckling.

Gunner lifted me into his arms, his arms solid and unyielding under me.

“I can walk,” I protested ineffectually.

“You’re still weak,” he said curtly. “You’re not in any shape to walk. You should never have—“

He bit his lip without finishing his sentence.

“I should never have asked you to fuck my mouth, you mean?” I said, letting my head drift back against the oddly comfortable hardness of his chest. “But I knew you couldn’t hurt me.”

“I could hurt you,” he contradicted me, but he didn’t sound happy about it. “I could hurt you in all sorts of ways you don’t even understand.”

“But so what if you could? As long as you don’t actually do it…”

He carried me upstairs, to an unfamiliar room. It was one I hadn’t bothered looking into, since it was just one in a line of guest bedrooms, sterile and impersonal.

“I thought there wasn’t anything here,” I said curiously.

“Took a good look around, did you?” he said dryly, and I flushed as I remembered how his brothers had all caught me snooping. He dropped me on the bed gently, and I turned on my side to watch what he was doing.

He opened the big walk-in closet, and emerged with a pile of clothing. “

“What’s—“ I began, and screeched as he dumped the whole thing on top of me.

“What the hell!” I said, climbing out of the pile, glaring at him. My annoyance faded as I saw the creases around his eyes, a tell-tale sign that he was laughing on the inside.

“Sorry,” he said solemnly.

“No you’re not,” I grumbled.

“Maybe not,” he agreed, and tossed something at me.

I shook it out and stared.

It was a dress. A very pretty, very expensive sweater dress. It was perfect for being indoors on a winter day.

“This is…for me?”

“No, it’s for the other girl we kidnapped in the dead of night and brought back to our remote home in the mountains,” Gunner said. “So give it back.”

“It is for me,” I said, staring down at it. The material was luscious, soft and warm like butter and sunlight. I’d never held such an expensive thing in my life. I looked around at the scattered clothing. It was all designer, stylish but also practical. I spied jeans and shorts, tank tops and blouses, skirts and dresses.

My mind was reeling.

“You…the four of you went shopping for me?” I said disbelievingly.

“It’s amazing what an unlimited budget and a personal shopper who’s eager to please her best customers gets you,” he said, clearing his throat. His tone was indifferent, but there was a subtle pleasure in his face.
